CATALUNIA with the COSTA BRAVA, BARCELONA and COSTA DORADAThe Costa Brava (Catalan and Spanish for 'wild coast') is the north-eastern coastal strip on Spain's Mediterranean coast in the autonomous region of Catalonia.
The approximately 220 km long Costa Brava stretches from the foothills of the Pyrenees on the French-Spanish border in Portbou south and southwest to Tordera River estuary in Blanes, about 60km from Barcelona.
The Costa Brava got its name from the heavily rugged rock massifs, by parallel to the coast running mountain ranges (Serra) steep slope down to the sea. Between the headlands are picturesque fishing villages such as L'Estartit and Tamariu, small beaches and bays (Calas), some of them are only accessible by boat, others have holidays accommodations facilities established. However, it is not the whole coastline of such. So, for example, is expanding the country in the Gulf of Roses, flat beaches with fine sand cover in Empuriabrava. Just south of Lloret de Mar, the topography of the milder forms of the flat, partially swampy coastal country.
